While it shares a low-poly aesthetic with their previous games Eidolon and Viridi, Tenderfoot Tactics is far from the calming relaxing experience that those titles offered. It’s a minimalist strategy game where your armies wage war with not just the weapons in their hands but also the ground beneath their feet.
While not much has been revealed about this new project, the trailers and early GIFs reveal a minimalist game of tactical combat and abstract units. Wizards, archers, and other fight in turn-based fashion; however their most powerful weapons are the abilities to reshape the environment.
Fire can spread across the map, blocking off flanks. Units with water affinity can pull energy from nearby ponds and lakes to enhance their attacks. Wizards can mold the earth to create land bridges for units. The skills let you create your own strategies to outmaneuver and outflank through environmental manipulation.
Tenderfoot Tactics is still early in development, and doesn’t have a release date yet. You can follow its progress through developer Ice Water Games’ Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook.
